2023 End of Year WIP Parade

This blog is the follow up to the Instagram live I filmed a couple of days before New Years 2024 (check it out here). This is in a very rough order from most recent to oldest to newest. I've linked most things to the yarn dyers or Ravelry project pages, but to be perfectly honest I did run out of steam. If I've missed anything let me know!

1) Handspun Cowl
My most recent work in progress, using yarn i've spun myself, and not using a pattern. I think this fibre came from the local chapter of the Handweaver Spinner Dyers Guild of Tasmania. I expect to be finished in the next day or two, then a few will be for sale next year!

A slightly shiny handspun yarn being knit into a rectangle. The yarn appears to be dark grey but actually has lots of silver, dark teal and burgundy throughout.

2) Westknits MKAL 2022
This one should have been finished this time last year!
Pattern is "Twist and Turns Shawl" by Stephen West of WestKnits
Yarn is Yarns with Alix 4ply STAND OUT sock yarn, colours are Mallard, Phlox and Mushroom.
I only have a cast off and some tassles to go. I recently finished the mystery knit along for 2023, so tempted to make this my next active WIP and just get those needles back.

A handknit shawl full of stripes and panels of a bright purple, dark green, and a pale mushroom colour. A little crazy looking

3) Porto Shawlette
This pattern is designed by Susanne Sommer (link to ravelry pattern page here) and I've used two beautiful yarns from Bombed Yarns who is another rather wonderful Tassie indie dyer.

I started this project last winter with the aim for it to be travel knitting. After fixing lots of mistakes I decided to put it down until I had more mental energy and clarity.

4) Colour Work Beanie Design
Yarn: Yarns With Alix WARM UP 12 Ply/Aran in Vanilla, Powder, Bronze and Brick.
Last winter I really wanted to work at designing my own colourwork beanie pattern that could be used as a teaching tool. Once I realised it was going to take a while, i decided to put it to the side and try again in the summer. I haven't picked it back up yet but i think the time is coming for another challenge and to finish it!

Used yarn balled up in white, powder blue, brick orange and bronze, and a white brim of a beanie

5) Cotton Dishcloth - TO BE FROGGED
Flinders 8ply Cotton from Spotlight
Pattern is the Grammas Dishcloth (2nd Favourite) by PJ Allen (link to Ravelry Pattern page here)
Frogging as I made some mistakes and only really started it cause I needed something to do with my hands at the cinema. But i've knit a thousand if these and love the pattern.

6) 2022 Advent Swap - TO BE FROGGED
I did start making the Habitation throw by Helen Stewart (link to ravelry pattern page here) but I was just too busy at the time and didn't think id use the finished product. The yarn from my wonderful swap partner will be put to better use.

The beginnings of a corner to corner knitted through with eyelets. There is a bag of scrap yarn and minis that were to be used.

7) Baby Mobile
I bought this Dawn Charm Set Kit by Susan B Anderson  (link to ravelry page here) as a gift knit that I only just started then abandoned. It's really cute and I think I'm going to finish it for a few upcoming babies. I bought the Barrett Woolens Co Kit and the Making Issue the pattern was published it, but you can now by the pattern separately.

A book showing a happy child, holding a string of knitted charms all to do with the weather. Also shown is yarn needed to make the charmes and the calico bag it all came in.

8) A pile of granny squares. HELP!
I have no idea what to do with these. But I started something so they are included. I used Yarns With Alix Self Striping 4ply Yarn in an early version of the "Corduroy" Colourway.

A pile of small crochet granny squares in a mix of neutral tones

9) 80's/90's Jumper
This is the Volt Sweater by Sue Stratford (link to Ravelry pattern page here) and I'm using "Villawool", a discontinued yarn from a very local mill that ceased production in the 90's I think. I found it at an opshop and thought I should make a loud fun jumper. Its been on hold for a year and a half because I have to math. Will I math? Maybe one day.

The start of a very bright Jumber in Purple, Hot Pink abd bright Turquoise. It has the start of a intarsia lightening bolt and the yarn needed to finish it piled up.

10) Joshaqan Socks
Joshaqan by Hunter Hammersen published in the book "Silk Road Socks"
I loved the lace by this sock is WAAYYYY to small for my big feet. I refuse to make the second sock until I find someone who can fit the first.

11) Mooncrush Tank
I cannot figure out what went wrong here, but this is another case where I have to math. It is the Mooncrush Tank designed by Jaqueline Sieslack (ravelry link here). It is such a beautiful pattern and I really want to wear it! The yarn is absolutely TO DIE FOR by another local yarn dyer Louie & Lola. I need to wear this in 2024.

12) Marled Monster Festival Jacket
This is the WIP I most determained to finish in 2024. This is the Tumbling Cubes Pompeii Jacket designed by Kaffe Fasset and Published in his Glorious Knitting book from the 80's. Its also Intarsia and uses scrap yarn held together. I aiming to wear this to "A Festival Called Panama" in march and have included it in my make 9 challenge.

13) Cozy Memories Blanket
I started this right at the start of my knitting journey. I think the last squares i knit into it were from my Shawlogrophy Shawl by Stephen West that I finished in January 2021. I love it, but i don't see myself adding anything else to it. So maybe I can turn it into a cushion cover or something? The Pattern is by Shelley Dupont (Ravelry link here)

14) NEW Kiddo Baby Blanket
This is also a very new WIP, but i've slotted it in right at the end. It's the Garter Squish Blanket by Stephen West of Westknits (ravelry pattern page here). This is the second time I've knit this very relaxing marled blanket, eventually all the kids that call me "Auntie" will get one. I'm using a bunch of different bright colours in my 12 Ply base, and holding together with undyed yarn of the same base.

And that is everything! After I finish #1 and #14 I'll be shipping away at these, but also I have more things I want to create! Lets see how I go!

Thanks folks, much love!

Alix xx
